چکیده

This project develops PLL macros that use novel digital architectures to achieve a user configurable optimum balance between phase noise, frequency resolution, frequency switching time, and power consumption. The PLL macros are implemented in SiGe BiCMOS to take advantage of the good phase noise and power consumption attributes. The digital nature of the implementation facilitates easy porting to more aggressively scaled processes.

Precisely controllable broadband frequency sweeps using a semiconductor laser in an optoelectronic phase-lock loop

We demonstrate the generation of wideband frequency sweeps using a semiconductor laser in an optoelectronic phase-lock loop. The rate of the optical frequency sweep is locked to and determined by the frequency of a reference electronic signal, leading to an agile, high coherence sweptfrequency source for laser ranging and 3-D imaging applications. Using a reference signal of constant frequency,...

1–10GHz Inductorless Receiver in 0.13μm CMOS

In this paper, we describe an inductorless wideband radio receiver architecture from 1GHz to 10GHz. Two receiver RF frontends designs are presented and compared: a traditional inductor peaking LNA and mixer (IPLM) and a capacitive peaking LNA and mixer circuit (CPLM). Measurement results indicate that CPLM with the same bandwidth has better linearity, comparable noise figure and uses only 17% m...

GPS Carrier Tracking Loop Performance in the presence of Ionospheric Scintillations

The performance of several GPS carrier tracking loops is evaluated using wideband GPS data recorded during strong ionospheric scintillations. The aim of this study is to determine the loop structures and parameters that enable good phase tracking during the power fades and phase dynamics induced by scintillations. Constant-bandwidth and variable-bandwidth loops are studied using theoretical mod...

Dual Phase Detector Based Delay Locked Loop for High Speed Applications

In this paper a new architecture for delay locked loops will be presented.  One of problems in phase-frequency detectors (PFD) is static phase offset or reset path delay. The proposed structure decreases the jitter resulted from PFD by switching two PFDs. In this new architecture, a conventional PFD is used before locking of DLL to decrease the amount of phase difference between input and outpu...

Control Theory for RF Feedback and Longitudinal Beam Stability

Progress in digital hardware solutions such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) has raised the question of how to design the algorithms of RF feedback. This especially applies to the feedback of the RF cavities and the longitudinal beam feedback for SIS100. For example, FPGAs currently allow FIR (finite impulse response) filter lengths of several tens of taps. This number of degrees of fre...
